Langtang Valley Ganjala Pass

The Langtang Valley Ganjala Pass Trek is one of the most famous trekking routes in Langtang, and takes you to the beautiful village of Langtang and over the Ganjala pass. The highest point of this trek is the Ganjala Pass at 5,122m.

What to Expect?

The main ethnic groups here are the Sherpa and Tamang whose religious practices, languages and customs are similar to those of Tibetans. In this trek you will get to trek through forests of rhododendron and bamboo. The most common wildlife includes migratory birds, monkeys, deer and Thar.

The trek begins from Syabrubesi, via the Kanyanjing Gompa crossing the mighty Ganja La Pass and ends at the Melamchi Pul Bazar in the Helambu region. Toward the end of the trip, you will also trek through some beautiful rice terraces and a number of splendid Buddhist monasteries around the delightful villages of Tarke Gyang and Sermathang before heading back to Kathmandu.

 

 

Itinerary

Day 01 : Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.
Day 02 : Half day sightseeing in Kathmandu.
Day 03 : Kathmandu to sundarija drive and trek to chisapani 1950m.5-6 hrs.
Day 04 : chisapani to kutumsang 2445m.6-7 hrs.
Day 05 : kutumsang to Ghopte 3420m.6-7 hrs.
Day 06 : Ghopte to Gosaikunda 4360m. 7-8 hrs.
Day 07 : Gosaikunda to syabru village 2200m. 6 hrs.
Day 08 : syabru village to Lama Hotel 2490m. 6 hrs.
Day 09 : Lama Hotel to Langtang village 3500m.6 hrs.
Day 10 : Langtang village to Kyangjin gompa 3900m. 4 hrs.
Day 11 : Kyangjin gompa.
Day 12 : Kyangjin gompa to ngegang 4400m.4 hrs.
Day 13 : Ngegang to keldang 4900m. 6-7 hrs.
Day 14 : Keldang to Ganjala pass 5130m. Dukpu 4620m. 5-6 hrs.
Day 15 : Dukpu to Tarkeghyang 2740m. 6-7 hrs.
Day 16 : Tarkeghyang to kakani 1400m. 5 hrs.
Day 17 : Kakani to melamchipul 846m. then by bus / car to Kathmandu.
Day 18 : Free Day.
Day 19 : Final departure.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu – 1,300m/4,264 ft

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by a representative from Kathmandu Adventures. After completing your custom formalities (Visa, etc) pick up your luggage and look for our representative with a Kathmandu Adventures display board at the arrival gate. You will be then transferred to your hotel.

 

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing & Preparation for the Trek

Today after breakfast we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. The day will also be for finalizing official procedure and other necessary arrangements. You will be also briefed on the nature of the trek, equipments and team composition. Some of landmarks we visit include the World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhu Nath) and Buddhists shrine (Bouddha Nath).  In the afternoon, there will be a pre-trip discussion where we can meet our trek leader and other team members. You can also make your last minute buying of personal items. Included meals:B

 

Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi (1,550m/5,100ft): 145 km/ 7 hrs

After breakfast we drive out along the north-western hills of Kathmandu. Enjoy the Himlayan views and mountainous lifestyle through the terraced fields and rustic villages. Take Lunch at the Trishuli Bazar before continuing further to  Dhunche. From Dhunche, we descent down to Syabrubesi. Included meals:B

 

Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel (2,380m/7,830ft): 6 hrs

Today is our first day of trekking. We follow the Langtang Khola River, pass through the dense forests and cross several suspension bridges. We also pass by a tea houses. The trail goes up and down but it’s not that challenging. Included meals:B

 

Day 05: Trek to Langtang village (3,430m/11,253ft): 6/7 hr

After morning tea, we embark on our second day of the journey. Our trail continues along dense forests. After making a steady climb up through the valley, we leave the tree line behind us. Enjoy the marvelous views of Langtang Lirung Pass while passing water mills, prayer wheels, chortens and mani stones with inscriptions carved on them. Included meals:B

 

Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m/12,697ft): 3-1/2 hr

After morning tea and breakfast, we trek out of the village and pass through yak pastures and cross several of the wooden bridges. Since we are getting into the high altitudes, you might start feeling the thin air. Included meals:B

 

Day 07: Excursion to Tsergo Ri (5033m/16,508 ft) and back to Kyanjin: 7/ 8 hrs

Today we make an excursion to Tsergo Ri which would also help us to acclimatize. The climb to Tsergo Ri which is above 5 thousand meters offers a magnificently panoramic views of the Himalayas. Besides, the climb to Tsergo Ri is a challenging one and the time for the climb depends upon your physical fitness and previous experience. By evening, we return back to Kyanjing Gompa. Day 08: Trek to Ganja La phedi (4300m/14,104 ft): 5-6 hr

After breakfast we start trekking to Ganja La Phedi, cross the Langtang River and ascend through rhododendron forests. Since we’re already in high altitude, the time for getting to our destination also depends on the weather conditions. During winter it might take longer to cross the snow strewn path. Day 09: Cross the Ganja La pass (5122m/16,800 ft) Trek to Keldang (4250m/13,940ft): 6/7 hr Today we cross the Ganja La pass. It will be a strenuous day since Ganja La is a difficult pass. Ganja la pass is covered with snow almost throughout the year. Make the long ascent through the boulders, pass the small lakes and summit Ganja La which situated on a rocky moraine. Enjoy the spectacular views from the pass. Climbing up and down the pass can sometimes be tricky due to snowfall and ice. From the pass, we descend down to Keldang. Included meals:B

 

Day 10: Trek to Yak Kharka (4000m/13,120ft): 5/6 hr

From Keldang we descend further down following a prominent ridge line. On our 5-6 hrs trek we continue in lower altitude passing through forests, ridges, and grasslands. Included meals:B

 

Day 11: Trek to Tarke Gyang(2,590m/8,497ft): 5/6 hrs

Today we descend down by 1500m. As you descend lower, you will notice more vegetation. Included meals:B

 

Day 12: Trek to Sermathang(2,610m/8,563ft): 3/4 hr

We walk through small forests with the view of beautiful villages of the Helembu region. The trail makes takes us around the valley and ends between Parachin and the pretty Sherpa village of Gangyul. The people of this village practice Tibetan Buddhism. Included meals:B

Day 13: Trek to Malemchi Puul Bazaar: Drive to Kathmandu: 3/4 hrs trek/ 2 hr drive On our final day of the trekking, we walk down to Malemchi Pul Bazaar with many Sherpa villages along the way. From the Bazaar we catch a bus back to Kathmandu. To celebrate the successful completion of our journey, in the evening, there will be dinner and Cultural show hosted by Kathmandu Adventures .  Included meals:B, D

 

Day 14: Farewell Friend

We are saying good bye to the mountains as journey in Nepal comes to an end today! There is nothing to do but trade emails with travel companions and organise the photos. If you have more time you can do some shopping or sightseeing. Approximately 3 hours before the scheduled flight a representative from Kathmandu Adventures will take you to the airport. On your way home you’ll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal. Included meals:B

Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, since this adventure entails traveling in remote mountainous regions, we cannot guarantee that we will not deviate from it. Weather conditions, health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The leader will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.
