About the Tour
As stated above Narayanhiti Palace Museum is the former royal palace, serving as the primary residence for the country’s monarchs. The word Narayanhiti is made up of two words ‘narayan’ and ‘hiti’. ‘Narayan’ is a form of the Hindu god “Vishnu” whose temple is located opposite the palace. ‘Hiti’ means “water spout”, one of which is also located to the east of the main entrance in the precincts of the palace. This palace was built in 1970 in the form of a contemporary Pagoda and replaced an older style palace of 1915 vintage.
The Narayanhiti Palace Museum is open every day except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
